ABOUT THE WORK
Liz Markus's recognizable style of staining unprimed canvas with saturated colors references her personal experiences with American subcultures: the hippie counterculture, punk, new wave, and even heavy metal. Creating forms that are simultaneously liquid and solid, subversive and reverent, Markus is able to playfully explore social hierarchies and status symbols. In Lacoste, the fashion company's name is broken apart while its iconic crocodile is given a naive makeover. The pristine and preppy brand is translated into something much more lively and much less precious.
Framing options are black or white painted wood, ⅞” wide flat face and ⅞” deep, with UV acrylic glass. Prints are framed edge to edge.
