About the Work
Joani Tremblay uses constructed images of landscapes excerpted from social media, advertisements, architecture sites and field research to paint simulated scenes and surreal and abstract landscapes that interrogate our perception of place. The artist assembles found images using digital collage techniques then paints the composition onto canvas. Referencing the digital representation of landscape in our times, Tremblay inverts and flatten perspectives. Fragments of built environments such as thresholds and architecture are used as framing devices to crop, obscure, and layer the landscape, unbuilding and rebuilding. Forms repeat and translate, referencing the speed at which we access content in our digital time.
Joani Tremblay (b. 1984, Montreal, Canada) has held solo exhibitions at Harper’s (New York, East Hampton), The Pit LA, Projet Pangée (Montreal), Kantor Gallery (Beverly Hills), Pony Sugar (Stockholm), and 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Tokyo), among others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles), Marie-Laure Fleisch Gallery (Brussels), Interstate Projects (Brooklyn), and Zalucky Contemporary (Toronto). Tremblay has received many international awards, with most recently the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work has been acquired by numerous public collections, including the Montréal Municipal Art Collection ( Montréal), RBC Corporate Collection (Toronto), Tricon Capital Group (Toronto), and the Mint Museum (Charlotte, NC). Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
