ABOUT THE WORK  
We are thrilled to have collaborated with Ryan McGinness to release Sitting in the Basement Knitting, a new limited edition rendered in porcelain-baked enamel, a material McGinness has worked in since 2001. Often used in subways and public signs, porcelain baked enamel on steel is the most durable signage material in the world, making it ideal for any environment and weather condition. McGinness builds his work from core elements of form, electrifying the chemistry of coded meaning and reflecting the saturation of signage present in contemporary life. His distinctive symbolic language, crafted over decades, blends the organic natural with the synthetic commercial, resulting in psychedelic navigation like reading a pamphlet from an alien planet. Sitting in the Basement Knitting requires no framing, and hangs flush to the wall on a provided cleat.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY 
Ryan McGinness (b. 1972, Virginia Beach, VA) has exhibited extensively including select solo exhibitions at Miles McEnery Gallery (New York), Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Richmond), Cranbook Art Museum (Michigan), Phillips (New York), Deitch Projects (New York), Cincinnati Art Museum, Pace Prints (New York), MoMa PS1 (New York), Galerie Forsblom (Helsinki), Baldwin Gallery (Aspen), Nanuza Gallery (Hong Kong), and Kohn Gallery (Los Angeles). His work is included in many public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Virginia Museum of Fine Art, and The Charles Saatchi Collection, among many others. McGinness received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. He currently lives and works in New York, NY.
