The Street Sweeper graphic originated as a 1970s decal package for a Corvette slot car. Here the motif takes on an anthropomorphic or mask-like feel, reminiscent of Nate Lowman's bullet hole imagery (which also began as an after-market automotive adornment, although in his case it was for a PT Cruiser). Much of Blair Thurman's work explores America's fascination with car culture, conflating childhood memories of hot wheels with a thorough investigation of 60s modernist painting. Ovoid shaped canvases and neon tubing have become emblematic of his style, the circuitous 'track' paintings giving a physical presence to infinity, the cyclical nature and perpetuity of life.
