From the East Coast to the West Coast, whether it be the dismal landscape at Rockaway Beach after Hurricane Sandy or the dreamlike scenery of Los Angeles, Aaron Stern's photography captures moments of isolation and the inevitable deterioration of human endeavors. Shot on 35mm and medium-format film, Stern's works are reminiscent of William Eggleston, Paul Graham, and Stephen Shore. Stern continues the American photographic tradition that touches upon the idea of vanities, emphasizing impermanence through the depiction of landscapes and urban scenery. The sophisticated relationship between light and color also lends a subtle sense of sorrow and surrealism to his works.
