Martine Gutierrez investigates personal and collective identity through the transformation of physical space and composed self, drawing from eclectic media to break down boundaries of gender, subject, artist, and muse. Gutierrez’s two new editions, Alcove A and Alcove B, feature her irreverent take on classicism. Hand-embellished with India Ink, the imagery originates from her body of work showcased in the forthcoming exhibition Infinite Identities at Huis Marseille Museum of Photography (Amsterdam), which will include Gutierrez’s soft sculpture, video works, and wallpaper featuring hand-drawn embellishment in the vein of Alcove A and Alcove B.
Martine Gutierrez has forthcoming exhibitions at Huis Marseille Museum of Photography and Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston. Previous solo exhibitions have been held at Australian Center for Photography, Museum of Modern Art Fort Worth, RYAN LEE (New York), and Anna Marra Contemporanea (Rome) among others. Past group exhibitions include presentations at Guy Fisher Gallery (Auckland), Kunstforum Wein (Vienna), Hayward Gallery (London), The 2019 Venice Biennale, The New Museum (New York), Shulamit Nazarian (Los Angeles) and many more. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
