Daniel Gibson’s newest body of work relies on intuition, as he begins with sumi ink and allows his hand to make marks with no specific intentions or guidelines. Inspired by his upbringing in the desert of California and surrounding Mexicali border towns, Gibson's freewheeling methodology is an homage to the vast desert horizon and emptiness that lends its path to imagination and wander. Artist Nilay Lawson writes, “Gibson’s visual revelations, just as with the flexibility of language can be interpreted, expound upon, and integrated into one’s own singular story with each pictorial discernment. Backed with a graphic sensibility the esoteric becomes obsolete and Gibson’s work brings to fruition and establishes a communication.”
