ABOUT THE WORK
Evgen Čopi Gorišek captures the dimensionality of internet flex culture — its sheen of glamour and opacity of intent — in his unique airbrushed portraits. The figures in his compositions are often depicted alone in increasingly abstracted scenes, drawing attention to body language and physical details — or lack thereof — like the uncanny mask-like smile that typifies his work. Gorišek’s calculated blend of stylized posing and amateur rendering reflects a fascination with the lifestyle of lifestyle itself, as well as an insistent bend towards looking on the bright side, however unsettling it may seem.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Evgen Čopi Gorišek has a forthcoming solo presentation at Marfa Invitational 2022 with Bill Brady Gallery. Previous solo exhibitions have been held at Plan X Gallery (Capri), Duve Gallery (Berlin), and Padre Gallery (New York). Select group exhibitions include presentations at WOAW Gallery (Hong Kong), Gana Art (Seoul), König Gallery (Berlin), Ramp Gallery (London), and Marian Cramer Projects (Amsterdam). Gorišek currently lives and works in Berlin.
