ABOUT THE WORK
Ethan Greenbaum is fascinated by moments of transition or decay in the built environment.  Working across a range of media, Greenbaum creates pieces centered on the everyday such as building materials, commercial design and construction sites.
Floaters is part of a recent series focused on consumer detritus the artist encounters on his commute to the studio. Greenbaum digitally removes the commercial text from each cup, foregrounding the iconography in their design. Each mass produced cup is made unique in its destruction - the crumpled columns and statuettes in the cups are broken worlds in miniature.

Ethan Greenbaum's work has been discussed in publications like The New York Times, Artforum, and BOMB Magazine. Recent projects include a solo presentation with Galerie PACT in Paris and solo exhibitions at Lyles and King in NYC and Super Dakota in Brussels. Previous exhibitions include KANSAS, New York; Derek Eller Gallery, New York; Hauser and Wirth, New York; Marlborough Chelsea, New York; Marianne Boesky, New York; Steve Turner, Los Angeles; The Aldrich Museum, Connecticut; and Stems Gallery, Brussels. Ethan is a co-founder and editor The Highlights, an online archive of artists' text based projects and a contributing writer for various media outlets. He has curated and co-curated multiple exhibitions in the United States and abroad. Greenbaum currently lives and works in New York.
