Rene Ricard "is a semi-secret hero of American art and culture," writes Vice magazine. Although once thought of as mainly a poet and art critic, Ricard began to develop his poems into paintings in the late 1980s, oftentimes repurposing old painted canvases from anonymous sources. Growing Up in America is a perfect example of this practice, featuring the title of one of his most well-known poems on top of what could very well be an impressionist painting from the 19th century. Ricard admits, "I'm vain about my handwriting."
Framing options are black or white painted wood, 3/4" wide flat face and 1" deep, with UV acrylic glass.
