Armed with a fervent appreciation and near-encyclopedic knowledge of art, artist Brad Phillips has been virtually curating a stream of consciousness style group show under the Instagram account @brad_phillips_group_show for years. The account has garnered an engaged following, in part, because Brad has no agenda other than sharing great art. In the second edition of our ongoing Curator Series, we approached Brad to bring his virtual group show to life through an online exhibition featuring series of works on paper by 9 artists who have recently caught his eye.
Cristine Brache (b. 1984, Miami, FL) often takes her personal and family history as a starting point to explore shared histories and trauma, womanhood, and the inevitable power dynamics that accompany these themes. Predominantly working in installation, sculpture, text, and film, the artist, filmmaker, and poet is interested in how people codify their behaviors and appearances for survival and adaptation in oppressive environments. Brache received her MFA in Fine Art Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, with recent solo exhibitions including those held at ICA Miami, Miami, FL; Anonymous Gallery, New York; Miami’s Locust Projects, and Anat Ebgi in Los Angeles, CA. Her work has been featured in festivals and group exhibitions internationally.
