Mia Chaplin sets the mood with her intuitively created painting and sculpture. Her earthbound palette and earnest sense of play retain a deceptive innocence — there is a violence in the density of brushstroke, hidden wounds in the impastoed bodies, flora, and emerging landscapes. Similarly to how emotions can obscure and exaggerate sensations and memories, Chaplin’s expressive brushwork both creates and cloaks her scenes. The absence of refined detailing allows for a cascade of feeling to emerge from the beyond, almost like how a sigil claws deeper than the symbol itself. In our collaboration, Chaplin has created Human Salad, a limited series of hand-finished prints, as well as a limited collection of Potion vessels. We invite you to explore the magic within.
