ABOUT THE WORK
"This work started as an ode to weeds. Usually the plants in my paintings are in pots or are coming out of soiled ground. I imagine this plant, however, has grown out of a chink or crevasse in this built environment. I still don't understand what defines one plant as a weed and the other as welcome, but to me, weeds are the most life-affirming forms. As far as I can tell, their existence is defined by stout defiance of control, and yet they are sometimes the most beautiful and delicate plants in the garden. Dandelions especially are magical; their greens are highly nutritious, their flowers look like the sun, they have the most beautiful way of propagating seeds, and they can be turned into wine.
