ABOUT THE WORK
Nicholas Cueva has been developing his surfer series since 2016. Drawing from his upbringing in the Calvary Chapel Surfing Association, the ongoing series draws from a multitude of personal and cultural associations, emphasized by his uncanny capture of the intimate sublime through the grain of surface texture and hauntingly poetic perspective. For his new Pater series, Cueva uniquely decoupaged each print, resulting in a series of 30 unique pieces that honor his characteristic color spectrum, visual texture, and painting language.
Nicholas Cueva has held solo exhibitions at Freight + Volume (New York), Proto Gomez (New York), Five Myles (New York), and Autumn Space (Chicago) among others. Group exhibitions include presentations at NARS (Brooklyn),
Selenas Mountain (Brooklyn), Julias Caesar (Chicago) and many others. He is a co-founder of Underdonk, an independent curatorial space in Ridgewood, New York. Cueva currently lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
