Cynthia Daignault's paintings focus on how unreliable our own conscious narration of reality is. She examined methods of presentation and perception, flattening both apparatus and image onto the same plane. For instance, the artist would hang a painting of a slide projector on one wall of the gallery and a painting of its 'projection' directly across. It makes sense, then, that in this print Daignault pays homage to Andy Warhol, whose groundbreaking experiments in duration and time significantly impacted the field of filmmaking. By painting an image of Warhol's likeness within the image of a TV screen, Daignault adds layers of distance and illusion to an important pop-art icon and his cinematic legacy.
