ABOUT THE WORK
In recent years, Amy Lincoln has widened the lens of her recognizably illustrative paintings of plants into those of more atmospheric settings. While some of her images still feature the signature leafy greens in the form of deserted islands or seascape shorelines, the majority of Lincoln’s newest work focuses on cropped expanses of horizon and sky depicted in various weather conditions. Inspired by the idea that materials reflect or refract light in response to the conditions of their immediate surroundings, these works are meant to fill the composition with a feeling of airy fullness through the use of meticulously chosen colors and the systematic transition between them, resulting in the illusion of space that leaves room for some surprises along the way.
Amy Lincoln has held solo exhibitions at Taymour Granhe Projects (London); Morgan Lehman Gallery (New York); Monya Rowe Gallery (St Augustine); among others. Group exhibitions include Galerie Valerie Bach (Brussels); Wave Hill (Bronx); CULT Aimee Friberg Exhibitions (San Francisco); among others. Lincoln received a Master of Fine Art from Temple University, Tyler School of Art, Elkins Park, PA (2006). She currently lives and works in New York.
