ABOUT THE WORK
Our new hand-embellished series by Neil Raitt is based on his recent painting Sunset Tide. A daily occurrence and yet no two are the same, the hues of a sunset can feel at once familiar and alien. Raitt uses his characteristic kaleidoscopic perspective to stretch the believability of light and color, fading into moonscapes of acidic green or fiery red clouds. Drawing upon different art historical approaches to dusk from the Hudson River School to more formalist traditions exemplified by painters such as Felix Valloton, Raitt creates new layers for a liminal world.
Neil Raitt has held solo exhibitions at Anat Egbi Gallery (Los Angeles), Galerie Chez Valentin (Paris), The Cabin (Los Angeles), Mon Cheri (Brussels), The Goss Michael Foundation (Dallas), and Nicelle Beauchene (New York) among others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Rental Gallery (East Hampton), Praz-Delavellade (Los Angeles), The Porch Museum (New York), The Hole (New York), Choi & Lagar (Cologne), Winter Projects (London), Piccadilly Place (Manchester, UK), and the Departure Foundation (London). Raitt currently lives and works in London.
