Using materials both traditional (rabbit skin glue and oil stick) and quotidian (coffee, wine, and cigarette ash), Robert Davis creates large scale geometric and textural abstractions. Often referring to our inability to have an undiluted experience in the world - such as attempting to modify our consciousness through the use of various substances - these dueling notions of reality and perception generate feelings simultaneously alien and familiar. Adopting strategies normally used in his large scale pieces, Davis created The Hessian exclusively for Exhibition A by applying decadent gold leaf to delicate hemp paper. The series of thirty-five is handmade, making each piece unique.
This hand-embellished work on paper is signed on the back by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity that is signed and numbered by exhibition a. The work is shadowbox framed and floated in a black painted wood moulding, 5/8" wide flat face and 1 3/8" deep, with UV acrylic glass. The unframed print comes packaged in clear plastic and then slipcased.
