The drawings and texts of Anne-Lise Coste (b. 1973, Marseille, France) have a raw immediacy reminiscent of graffiti, described by the artist as “having faith in the first gesture”. With dada-influenced language and intensely lyrical images, her work exudes impulsiveness, rebellion, and emotion. Solo exhibitions include those at Nogueras Blanchard (Madrid), Lullin Ferrari (Zurich, Switzerland), Hasley McKay Gallery (East Hampton, NY), and Susanne Hilberry (Detroit). She has also shown at Eleven Rivington (New York), White Columns (New York), Museo de Bellas Artes de Santander, and Anton Kern Gallery (New York). Coste was chosen as a critic’s pick in both Artforum and Time Out New York, as well as made appearances in Flash Art, White Hot, and Mousse magazines. In 2014, she released her fourth book, “Où suis-je.” She studied in Marseille and Zurich before moving to New York, where she now lives and works.
