ABOUT THE WORK
Sean Landers’ dynamic body of work spans painting, sculpture, photography, writing, and more. Known for his ability to hone personal longing into universal archetypes, Landers explores humour within sadness, tragedy circling ambition, and the interconnected absurdity of it all. Our new collaboration Dog, based on a painting of the same name recently exhibited at Anton Kern Gallery, melds Landers’ unique blend of text and figurative painting in the same surreal plane. Layered with nostalgia of Landers’ past work and our proverbial beloved friend, Dog speaks to an ongoing journey of transformation.
Sean Landers has held solo exhibitions at Anton Kern Gallery (New York), Greengrassi (London), Consortium Museum (Dijon), Galerie Rodolphe Janssen (Brussels), Petzel Gallery (New York), Capitain Petzel (Berlin), Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo), China Art Objects (Los Angeles), among many others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Nino Mier Gallery (Los Angeles), Carl Kostyal Gallery (Malmo, Sweden), Blum & Poe (New York), Institute of Contemporary Art (Miami), and Paul Kasmin Gallery (New York). Landers’s work is represented in numerous museum and public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Walker Art Center, (Minneapolis), Denver Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Tate Modern (London), Sammlung Hoffmann (Berlin) and Fundación/La Colección Jumex (Mexico City). Landers currently lives and works in New York, New York.
