ABOUT THE WORK
Teetering on the outskirts of reality coated with a scented froth, Margot Bird makes things feel alive. With an affinity for kitsch and the supernatural — with an emphasis on poodles — Bird's paintings are transportive while being wholly familiar. Her new print edition, "Poodle Scarf" accompanying her Sidel & McElwreath online solo exhibition Enjoyable Presence, is the dance of hallucinatory spring time. It is rococo, it is an afternoon at Neiman's with Nana, it is a canine fever dream and the perfect addition to collections that embrace the joyous surreal.
Margot Bird currently has a solo exhibition presented by Sidel & McElwreath, accessible now through their online viewing room. She held a solo exhibition at Sargent's Daughters (New York) and has been included in group exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth (New York), Ladrón Galería (Mexico City), Wassaic Project (Wassaic, NY), 123 Astronaut Gallery (Los Angeles), and many others. Bird currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
