Christian Joy
Christian Joy (b.1973) is an American costume designer and artist best known for her designs for the lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O. Occasionally eschewing thread and print for glue and marker pens, she has influenced contemporary fashion with her punk and DIY sensibility. In June 2014, she was involved in the production of “The Spirit’s Knife,” directed by ioulex, and “Stop the Virgens” a psycho opera created by Karen O and KK Barrett in 2011. Other artists and performers she has designed for include Santigold, Oh Land, the Klaxons, the American Ballet Theater, Anna Sperber, and Isabella Boylston. A 2009 collaboration with TopShop resulted in three limited-edition collections. She has had solo shows at New York Fashion Week and the AVA Gallery (New York), as well as been featured in the New York Fashion Now exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London). Her work has been published in Nylon magazine, Time Magazine, the New York Times magazine, ELLEgirl - who introduced her as a guru of ‘DIY’ Fashion - and Time Out New York, who featured Joy on the cover of their Most Stylish New Yorkers issue.
