About the Work
The Chaser and The Runner is our third edition collaboration with acclaimed artist Monica Kim Garza. Limited to an edition of 50, this archival pigment print features layers of silkscreened gloss spot varnish, glitter on Hahnemuhle paper. Signed, dated, and numbered by the artist on front, this piece showcases Garza's dynamic style and thematic exploration of running as both a form of meditation and a social phenomenon.
Garza describes the original work as "a fast-paced study done in one day or one go, a gestural study to help develop my work and interest in paint as language." The image captures the simple yet profound act of running, drawing inspiration from her recent exhibition in Cologne, titled "The Trees and Bushes Beside You." She reflects on how running, for her, serves as a form of meditation while also being a social sensation influenced by bloggers and the fashion of running. This piece is part of her broader oeuvre, which celebrates figures of women in moments of leisure and activity, rejecting the dominant white male gaze and creating a powerful narrative of empowerment and joy.
