About the Work
In our latest collaboration with the exceptionally talented Danielle Orchard, we present two new editions: A Fallow Field and Red Bath. These works continue Orchard's dialogue with the legacy of modern art, offering a fresh take on female representation and embodiment through her discerning eye.
A Fallow Field emerges as a hand-finished print series, brought to life by Orchard in her studio with gouache and watercolor pencil, while Red Bath presents a unique exploration through hand-collaged elements atop archival pigment print on etching paper, available in four distinct variants, with 15 pieces of each variant.
Drawing inspiration from the greats like Picasso and Matisse, Orchard's work stands out for its bold reinterpretation of classical motifs, presenting female nudes in abstract, multi-perspectival compositions that blend solid contours with saturated colors. Her work delves into the dynamics of the female form, layer by layer, integrating her personal journey as an artist and woman within the broader discourse of art history.
Orchard's art not only revisits but revitalizes historical narratives, transforming familiar scenes into spaces of introspection and contemporary resonance. Through her use of popular motifs, she directs viewers towards a deeper engagement with her expressive language, where the nuanced portrayal of women in moments of leisure and introspection challenges and enriches our understanding of their interiority.
Both editions derive from Orchard's groundbreaking solo exhibition "You Are a Serpent Who’ll Return to the Ocean" at Perrotin, New York, in 2023, capturing the essence of her exploration into the complexities of womanhood, loss, and resilience. Through these editions, we invite you to immerse yourself in Danielle Orchard's captivating world, where each stroke and color invites a dialogue on the multifaceted experiences of contemporary womanhood.
