ABOUT THE WORK
Lizzy Lunday draws on the expanse of mythological archetypes and canonical art historical compositions to create fresh visions of the human condition — in all its dynamic and disjointed glory — for the 24/7 online, celebrity-obsessed, reality television informed age. Her figures and scenes are fractured, dissolving, and distorted, reflecting the kinesthetic accumulation of images received daily through mass media. Based on a painting featured in her recent solo exhibition Anchored in Midair at Fredericks & Freiser, our new print edition Hooked In typifies this sense of complicated longing. Two figures share an embrace wherein the intimacy is elusive, as proportions swell and recede, while rainbow hues interrupt and obscure figuration. Lunday’s world is a technicolor digital dream and we're hooked.
