About the Work

This series on paper exists in tandem with Chambers' series of abstract paintings intended to reconceptualize the space where creation happens - the studio as jazz club, rather than factory. "Seen by day, the jazz club eludes to the energy and movements of the evening; the walls hold the tales of skill, intellect, improvisation, emotion, and decision-making. Eyes closed and sweat dripping; the audience is attuned to the sanctity of the moment." To make this edition, Chambers sprayed nylon flocking fibers onto paper prepared with hand-painted adhesive, shaking off any excess fibers after twelve hours. As a result, each piece is subtly unique.

Artist Biography

Matthew Chambers (b. 1982, Boise, ID) confronts the act of painting through diversity, exuberantly flitting from direct representation to complete abstraction and working in media as varied as oil paint, raw canvas, and fuzzy nylon flocking. He has had solo shows at Zach Feuer, Untitled and Rental Gallery (New York), the Zabludowicz Collection (London), Praz-Delavallade (Paris), Angstrom (Los Angeles), Blanket Contemporary Art (Vancouver), and recently mounted a two person show with Brendan Fowler at Hezi Cohen Gallery (Tel Aviv). His work has been featured in group exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery (London), The Rubell Family Collection (Miami), Zach Feuer (New York), MOCA Pacific Design Center (Los Angeles), Marlborough Madrid, Brand New Gallery (Milan), and Luce Gallery (Turin). Today he produces drawings, books, and paintings in an industrial studio space he shares with artist Brendan Fowler in Atwater Village, Los Angeles.

Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.

All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.

Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.

We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.

Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.

Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.

Any artwork that is floated will be placed in a frame that has a ⅝” wide flat face and is 1 5/16” deep. Work will be floated with a 1” border around it.
