About the Work
In 2008, Sebastiaan Bremer happened upon a box of negatives from a 1973 family trip to the Alps. Having never seen these images of his parents and siblings before, he was struck by the slice of life they provided insight into: the snowcapped Alps, the brilliant sun, and the youth of his parents. Bremer amplified the the beauty and happiness of the photographs with colorful marks of varying opacity, so that the figures within could understand the blissful perfection of the world they inhabited and recognize the joy in that time and place, surrounded by sparks of the gods.
Sebastiaan Bremer is a Dutch artist whose work has been exhibited at the Tate Modern, London; the Brooklyn Museum of Art; The Aldrich Museum, Connecticut; MoMA PS1, New York; and at Het Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. He has had solo exhibitions at Air de Paris; Galerie Barbara Thumm, Berlin; Roebling Hall, New York; James Fuentes, New York; BravinLee Programs, New York; Hales Gallery, London; Mia Sundberg Galleri, Stockholm; Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York and Zurich. He attended the open studio program at the Vrije Academie in The Hague and the Skowhegan School where he began experimenting with murals, collage paintings, and drawing directly on photographs, a style which he continues to use today.Bremer’s work is part of several important collections in the US and abroad, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Authentication & Resale
This work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed and numbered by the artist.
Be sure to keep your Certificate of Authenticity (COA) in a safe place. We are unable to replace or reissue COAs.
Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Any artwork that is floated will be placed in a frame that has a ⅝” wide flat face and is 1 5/16” deep. Work will be floated with a 1” border around it.
