Marina Adams composes her paintings from arresting swaths of bright hues that coalesce on the canvas, resulting in the uniquely abstract figural illusions that are characteristic of her work. Adams' broad gestural strokes waver between improvisation and structure, which free her geometric abstractions from rigidity. Adams' lyrical titles reflect the paintings' inherent poeticism while providing a structural framework for her viewer's non-narrative experience.
In Blue Star (Saquasohuh), from which we collaborated with Adams to produce her new print edition, Adams employed gouache and ink on Indian Tsarsho Paper over a period of about three years (2011 - 2014), taking full advantage of the paper’s absorbency, layering color upon color, to achieve a deep, time-based luminosity. In our print edition of the same name, this original texture and depth is echoed in the archival paper grain, while the hand-touched feel is mimicked in the paper's deckled edge.
Framing option is white or black painted wood, 7/8” wide flat face and 7/8” deep, with UV acrylic glass.
