ABOUT THE WORK
Everybody has a story to tell. In his book paintings, Ryan Steadman explores the structure and signifiers of narrative. A book, like a painting, is both object and image. It is imbued with memory and meaning that can change over time. As such, Steadman's series investigates the mutability of both visual ideals and ideological content as well as how the two affect one another.
ARTIST BIO
Ryan Steadman has held solo exhibitions at Halsey McKay (East Hampton), Pablo's Birthday (New York), and Karma (New York) among others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Halsey McKay, Boston University Gallery, and Lehmann Maupin (New York). Steadman currently lives and works in Delhi, New York.
