Exhibition A is thrilled to unveil a distinctive collaboration with Cassi Namoda – a hand-knotted rug edition that is as much a work of art as it is a testament to cultural fusion and craftsmanship. Crafted by a skilled female collective in Morocco, each rug in this edition has been carefully hand-knotted, using naturally dyed wool. The design draws inspiration from a painting by Namoda, bringing her artistic vision into a new, tactile form. Namoda's involvement extended to visiting the collective, witnessing the transformation of her painting into a beautiful woven piece. Cassi Namoda, a multifaceted artist born in Maputo, has traversed continents, capturing the essence of each city she visits in her celebrated paintings. Her works, often reflecting on African stories and postcolonial narratives, are rich with symbolism and historical references. They echo Namoda's diverse life experiences, from her early years in Kenya observing nature, to her artistic evolution in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Namoda's latest collaboration with Exhibition A, and her visit to the Moroccan collective, reflects her deep appreciation for the spirit of collaboration. She remarks, "Working with artisan communities is a beautiful way to connect and learn native and indigenous crafts. The merging of two worlds is such a beautiful thing." This rug edition not only embodies Namoda's artistic ethos but also represents a meaningful bridge between her dynamic painting style and the traditional craft of rug making. Each piece in this limited edition is a celebration of art, culture, and the beauty of handcrafted work.
Artist Biography
Cassi Namoda (b. 1988, Maputo, Mozambique) is an artist whose paintings delve deeply into the cultural mythologies and historical narratives of post-colonial Africa, with a special focus on her native Mozambique. Her work is a tapestry of Luso-African perspectives, merging literary, cinematic, and architectural influences into each canvas. Namoda’s artistry is marked by its elusiveness and conceptual rigor. Her characters, emerging from a blend of African indigenous religions and Western mythologies, are set against landscapes that oscillate between the rural and the urban, portrayed through a surreal and mythic lens. Having lived in diverse countries like Haiti, the United States, Kenya, Benin, Uganda, Indonesia, and the Dominican Republic, Namoda's understanding of place is both nuanced and subversive. Her syncretic approach weaves together a rich symbolic language, drawing from global mythologies, indigenous folk art, European painting traditions, and colonial power dynamics. This is vividly expressed in her dreamlike narratives and sensual landscapes, characterized by washed colors, bold compositions, and a sense of magical realism. Namoda's paintings are not just visual experiences but dialogues with modernity and the art historical canon. Namoda’s work has been collected by several prestigious institutions, including the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, the Baltimore Museum of Art in Baltimore, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Jumex in Mexico City, X Museum in Beijing, and Inhotim in Brazil. She has also held solo exhibitions at renowned galleries such as Xavier Hufkens and Goodman Gallery.
Framing
Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
FRAME
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
MAT
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
GLAZING
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
DIMENSIONS
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Any artwork that is floated will be placed in a frame that has a ⅝” wide flat face and is 1 5/16” deep. Work will be floated with a 1” border around it.
Shippings & Returns
Unframed work ships within 5 business days of your order. Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Please allow 2-4 weeks for framing and delivery. Need it faster? Expedited options may be available by emailing help@exhibitiona.com. All work ships from the US. International customers are responsible for any customs, duty, or VAT charges.
If you change your mind after placing your order, please email us at help@exhibitiona.com within 24 hours. We will not be able to accommodate cancellations for framed orders after that time period (as your frame will have been ordered and cut within that time period). We may not be able to accommodate your request to cancel your order for an unframed work after 24 hours if it has been packaged and processed by our fulfillment center.
We are unable to accept returns on custom framed artwork. Our general policy is that we do not accept returns. If your print arrives damaged or does not meet your expectations, you may be eligible for a replacement or return. Any issues must be reported within 5 business days of receipt by emailing help@exhibitiona.com.
