About the Work
Dubbed the "Insider's Outsider" by Mark Binelli in The New York Times, Lonnie Holley is an artist whose practice is expands beyond the confines of traditional definition. With foundational roots in Birmingham, Alabama, Holley's first creations were sandstone carvings that soon transformed to closely mirror his hometown surroundings, forming vast sculptures comprised of discarded steel and other readily available found objects. As he explained to Binelli, "'What I’m doing here, I think Malcolm said it best: by any means necessary... We can make art where we have to. Dr. King, if you remember, wrote a sermon on a piece of toilet paper.'" Holley's installations, wall-mounted sculptures, musical compositions, and personality are dense studies of matter and its inherent loaded spiritual presence. A continual investigation of and reverence for things in all their abundant meaning weaves a continual thread throughout Holley's body of work, as well as the consistent reminder of the dark symbolism behind the harsh reality of their accumulation.
We are proud to have collaborated with James Fuentes to release this print edition based on Holley's sculpture From the Roots I am, shown with the gallery at NADA Miami 2017.

Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
