About the Work

Heavy T-Rex is our newest collaboration with Liz Markus and the artist’s first ever sculpture edition. Markus is well-known for her expressive series of vibrantly colorful paintings that merge pop art motifs with gestural intuition, creating visually dynamic and emotionally charged meditations on form itself.

In our new collaboration with the Los Angeles-based painter, we furthered Markus’ exploration of form by bringing her highly sought-after T-Rex character into three-dimensional space. A cast-bronze edition of 15, Heavy T-Rex brings a physical gravitas and literal embodiment to the artist’s ongoing exploration of the iconic, mass-produced T-Rex costume.

“[My T-Rex motif] started out as this actual 3D costume, which is a pop culture symbol I interpreted into the two-dimensional language of painting, and now through the process of creating Heavy T-Rex, [he’s] morphed back into 3D, a transformed version that reflects my hand and interpretation.” — Liz Markus

Heavy T-Rex marks a monumental moment in the artist’s much-loved oeuvre, representing an unprecedented opportunity to collect one of her most recognizable characters to date.
