About the Work
We’re proud to present our new collaboration with artist Holly Coulis. Lemon Still Life with Vase (2023) is a hand-finished series of 25 that features unique variants created by the artist in her Athens, Georgia studio, using Acryla gouache atop Arches silkscreen paper.
Our new collaboration represents a fresh turn in the artist’s ongoing formal exploration of still lifes, wherein signifiers of the domestic are pared down to their absolute essence. Based on a painting of the same name exhibited in early 2023 at Cooper Cole (Toronto), we worked alongside Coulis to digitally alter elements of the original painting before burning screens, creating novel territory where she could reenter the composition with variegated linework. Lemon Still Life with Vase forgoes strong outlines by employing a dry-brushed technique, creating soft moments of disintegration that mimic the eventual lifecycle of the depicted organic forms.
Exhibiting a complex refinement, Coulis’ body of work readily abandons verisimilitude in favor of a quiet energy and straight-forward reverence that commands our attention into a state of meditative rejuvenation.
Holly Coulis (b. 1968, Toronto, Canada) has a forthcoming July 2023 solo exhibition at Philip Martin Gallery (Los Angeles). Previous solo exhibitions were held at Cooper Cole Gallery (Toronto), Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery (New York), SOCO Gallery (Charlotte), and Tennis Elbow at The Journal (Brooklyn), among many others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Maki Fine Arts (Tokyo), Daniel Faria Gallery (Toronto), Tif Sigfrids (Athens, GA), Kasmin (New York), Marinaro (New York), Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (Overland Park, KS), The Hole (New York), and Jeffrey Deitch (New York). Coulis’ work is included in the collections of the Blanton Museum of Art (Austin), Fidelity Investments (Boston), Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Rollins College (Orlando), and UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas). The artist lives and works in Athens, GA.

Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
