    ABOUT THE WORK
Did Charles Burchfield anticipate Suzanne Simard? By bringing up to the moment research about how trees communicate and care for one another via mycorrhizal networks to the history of American landscape painting—and acknowledging the digital visual vocabularies of her childhood—Madeleine Bialke creates both a personal and resonant “twilight haze.”

Of Many Moons, an edition of 40 prints with 15 hand-embellished by the artist, Bialke writes:

“A small sapling stands in front of a large old tree trunk. They reference Mars and its moon Phonos, and some of the other moons that orbit Mars. I was thinking about connectivity, and how we are all in each other's orbits, but also family— the young progeny next to a giant parent. A glow comes from an external source, raining down on the trunk to hit the young tree. The title, Many Moons, also references the time it will take for the young tree to loom as large as its parent.”
