About the Work
Can an eruption fit in the palm of a hand? In Ofrenda mínima (Minimal OZering), Laura Noguera takes volcanoes as her point of departure, these monumental, explosive bodies that serve as figurations of both the origin of life and the irrepressible force of nature, and renders them in their most minimal expression. With the care reserved for what could break apart at any moment, a hand with polished nails holds the origin of the world.
Artist Biography
Laura Noguera (b. 1992, Santa Marta, Colombia) is a Colombian visual artist whose paintings construct intimate symbolic worlds shaped by emotion, memory, and perception. Working primarily in oil, Noguera creates psychologically charged scenes in which domestic interiors, landscapes, animals, furniture, and recurring objects become part of a personal visual language that oscillates between tenderness and absurdity. Her compositions often function as autobiographical metaphors, using subtle tensions between figures, objects, and space to explore emotional and spiritual states, interpersonal relationships, and systems of hierarchy and communication. Raised in Santa Marta surrounded by the Caribbean landscape and a large extended family, Noguera draws inspiration from both the natural world and the quiet poetry of everyday objects. Doors, chairs, candles, staircases, mountains, bodies of water, eggs, and rain recur throughout her work as symbolic stand-ins for emotions and ideas that resist direct articulation. She approaches painting as a process of translation and discovery, often describing herself less as the author of her images than as a channel through which they emerge. Noguera received her BFA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and earned her MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art in 2017. She is a recipient of a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. After several years living in New York, she returned to Bogotá, where she currently lives and works. Recent solo exhibitions include Tan vasto por fuera como por dentro (2025) and Por fin arder (2022). Her work has also been included in group exhibitions including Puro horizonte alrededor (2026), Mínima expresión (2025), Materias en construcción (2025), and Policroma gráfica (2024), as well as fairs including ArtBo and BaqArt.
