About the Work
Katherine Bradford awes critics with her deft mark making, direct capture of painted emotion and the materiality of feeling — the distinct voice of her presence rendered in gesture. Bradford builds forms through thin washes of broad brushstrokes, inventing layered colorfields and figures who are almost deity-like in space, alive in the world of creation. Emerging with a glow, they exist as community and as composition. Swimmers in Fog is an edition of archival pigment prints that blurs the line between foreground and background, displaying airy beings that could be sitting poolside, wading into the sea at the beach, or breast stroking through the air all in the same scene. It seems as though we’ve stumbled into someone’s dream with no sense of time or space, only the purple mist and the water that is everywhere and nowhere and all that’s left to do is swim.
Katherine Bradford has a forthcoming 2022 retrospective at The Portland Museum of Art (Maine). Previous solo exhibitions have been held at CANADA (New York), Campoli Presti (London, Paris), Adams and Ollman (Portland, OR), Galerie Haverkampf (Berlin), The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (Texas), and Galleria Monica De Cardenas (Milan) among others. Select group exhibitions include presentations at Timothy Taylor Gallery (London), SHRINE (New York), Drag City Soccer Club Club (Chicago), Pace Gallery (New York), CANADA (New York, NY), Brand New Gallery (Milan), Venus Over LA (Los Angeles), The Journal Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), and Harper's Books (East Hampton, NY). Her work is included in public collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY), and Portland Museum (Portland, ME) among many others. This work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed and numbered by Exhibition A.
Be sure to keep your Certificate of Authenticity (COA) in a safe place. We are unable to replace or reissue COAs.
Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Any artwork that is floated will be placed in a frame that has a ⅝” wide flat face and is 1 5/16” deep. Work will be floated with a 1” border around it.
