About the Work
Simultaneously exploring the figurative and the abstract, Heidi Hahn's paintings employ washes of vibrant color that enhance the ambiguous narratives and dense psychological intensity within. With compositions often centering around female figures, Hahn's characters refuse prying interpretation, blanketing their outward gaze or reclining their bodies into purposefully enigmatic poses. The Body is Not Essential is from a series of thirteen paintings of the same name. The series uses the recurring image of a woman nestled under a tree in an ambiguous mode of respite to explore the subject of female sexuality. In the iteration available now on Exhibition A, Hahn's subject lays contemplatively against an apple tree — the curve of her body a direct contrast to the verticality of the trunk, activating phallic symbolism — in a private moment of pleasure that reverberates with eroticism.
Heidi Hahn has mounted solo exhibitions at Jack Hanley Gallery (New York) and Premier Regard (Paris). She has been included in shows at Jack Hanley Gallery (New York), Judith Charles Gallery (New York), Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts (Brooklyn), 109 Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), La Mama Gallery (New York), and Jordana Zeldin Fine Arts (Brooklyn), among others. Hahn has been granted residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Yaddo, Fine Arts Work Center, The Lighthouse Residency, Headlands, and has received a grant from the Jerome Foundation. She received her BFA from The Cooper Union in 2006 and her MFA from Yale University in 2014. Heidi Hahn currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Framed artwork is custom framed once it is ordered. Allow 3-5 weeks for framing and delivery.
All of our frames are made from sustainably sourced engineered hardwood that is manufactured in the USA. Frames are available in Black or White Matte and Walnut.
Prints are hinged to a conservation quality, acid-free and lignin-free Cellulose matboard, using acid-free polyethylene cloth tape. Each mat’s surface paper is fade and bleed resistant and is attached to a conversation quality foam-core board. Some of our work (typically those pieces with a deckled edge) is floated on the matboard with spacers to separate the artwork from the glazing.
We use museum quality .060 mm plexiglass to frame your work. It blocks 82-85% of UV rays to prevent color fading from exposure to light, protecting your art for years to come.
Our White and Black frames have a ⅞” wide flat face and are 15/16” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
Our Natural and Walnut frames have a ¾” wide flat face and are 1 ⅛” deep. Mats are 1” wide for prints up to 8” x 10”. Mats are 2” wide for prints larger than 8” x 10”.
