ABOUT THE WORK
We are thrilled to have collaborated once again with Ryan Steadman on a limited release of two series of paintings. In his book paintings, Steadman cleverly toys with the structure and signifiers of narrative. In his new series, he has injected an added layer of complexity by choosing fictional titles from cinema to recreate — Handbook for the Recently Deceased, a reference to literature found in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice (1988) and Three Plays by Margot Tenenbaum, written by one of the main characters in Wes Anderson’s cult classic The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Dimensional meaning dances creatively with memory and imagination, as the depth (of plane and thought) is managed within the main medium, tightly rendered oil on canvas.
