Andisheh Avini's 2015 show at Marianne Boesky Gallery exhibited handcrafted marquetry panels from Iran splattered with colorful silkscreen inks, as well as paintings on thick Persian rugs. This image came about after Avini laid down one of his actual marquetry pieces on a Frank Stella rug he owns. The lacquered wood inlay, typically used for interior decor, acts as a geometric readymade that conflates reappropriation with the original source of inspiration. The resulting pattern is redolent of Stella's Black Paintings from 1959.
Framing options are black or white painted wood, 7/8" wide flat face and 7/8" deep, with UV acrylic glass.
