Richard Prince's practice of overlaying DVD sticker labels onto vintage pin-ups strikes a titillating balance between old and new, cinematic and photographic, obscured and exposed. It is difficult to say what is more erotic - the figure, the text, or the technology? These suggestive narratives have popped up numerous times, including during Salon 94 Bowery's t-shirt painting show and again in 2011 with Covering Pollock. Dovetailing with Prince's famous publicity pictures, this method of collage could be thought of as censorship by overstimulation.
