About the Work

Amelia Briggs is an interdisciplinary fiber artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Influenced by her childhood in Amish Country and her early training as a figure painter, Briggs explores themes of embodiment and inner nature through soft sculptures that act as metaphors for the body. She received her MFA in painting from the University of Memphis, where she won the Graduate Purchase Award, and her BFA in painting from Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University. In 2022, Briggs received a grant from the Tyson Family Foundation and CACHE for her solo exhibition, "Pony Gate", in Fayetteville, AR, where she transformed an abandoned storefront into a large-scale public installation. Briggs has been an artist-in-residence at Wassaic Project, Monoson Arts, and the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. In 2019, Briggs began a collaboration with renowned designer Kelly Wearstler, which continues today. This partnership has been featured in Vogue, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Surface, and Domino. Briggs has exhibited work at The Hole (Los Angeles, CA), Art Basel (Miami, FL), Numeroventi (Florence, Italy), Boston University (Boston, MA), Bowes-Parris Gallery (London, UK), Cohle Gallery (Paris, France), The High Line (New York, NY), Future Fair (New York, NY), and Barely Fair (Chicago, IL), among others. Her work has been featured in publications such as The Observer, Architectural Digest, Hyperallergic, Boston Art Review, Effect Magazine, Artforum, Contemporary Art Review LA, NPR, ArtMaze Magazine, New American Paintings, Maake Magazine, Create Magazine, and Burnaway, among others. From 2017 to 2021, Briggs worked as the Director of David Lusk Gallery in Nashville, TN, where she curated numerous exhibitions. She has also curated for SECAC and Spring/Break Art Show.
